The Urbana Police Department participates in the Crimestoppers program of Champaign County. This program is managed by the Champaign Police Department and pays rewards to people for anonymous tips on felony crimes and fugitives in Champaign County. It is funded by local agencies and businesses.

The Criminal Investigation Section Sergeant attends a once-a-week meeting with all of the other investigative commanders (as well as State Police and the FBI) in the County. They discuss details of on-going investigations and decide on what the crime of the week will be for the following week. This crime is featured on television and in newspapers. If the crime of the week occurred in Urbana, an Investigator will film the television spot with a local station video crew.
