Our mission:  The Urbana Public Works Department promotes growth in the City of Urbana by maintaining, constructing and improving the City's infrastructure.  We preserve the quality of life for the citizens, visitors, businesses and government agencies (both within the City and in the surrounding areas).  Our department strives to provide prompt and courteous service in a professional, efficient and cost-effective manner to safeguard the safety, health and welfare of those we serve.

Weather permitting, the southbound lane for traffic on Maple Street will be closed from Elm Street to High Street beginning Wednesday, August 24, 2016 until 3:00 p.m. on Friday, August 26, 2016 for installation of a new water main. Maple Street will remain open to traffic at all times during the lane closure. Access will be maintained to all properties along Maple Street during the lane closure. Motorists are encouraged to drive carefully through this and all construction areas. Thank you for your cooperation while this construction is in progress.

The Solar Urbana-Champaign program came to a close on May 31, helping 81 home and business owners install over 605 kW of solar in Champaign county. The program is result of the City of Urbana’s partnership with Midwest Renewable Energy Association (MREA).
