Our mission:  The Urbana Public Works Department promotes growth in the City of Urbana by maintaining, constructing and improving the City's infrastructure.  We preserve the quality of life for the citizens, visitors, businesses and government agencies (both within the City and in the surrounding areas).  Our department strives to provide prompt and courteous service in a professional, efficient and cost-effective manner to safeguard the safety, health and welfare of those we serve.

Registration for the May 20, 2017, residential electronics recycling collection event is now CLOSED.  There are local options to recycle most electronic devices.  Please see the attachment below, or contact U-Cycle at (217) 384-2302 with further questions.

Weather permitting, periodic lane closures for pavement coring can be expected along Vine Street from south of Main Street to south of University Avenue, starting at 7 am, Monday, April 3, 2017 and ending at 5 pm, Sunday, April 9, 2017. Two-way traffic will be maintained on Vine Street at all times. Motorists are encouraged to drive carefully through this and all construction areas. Thank you for your cooperation while this work is in progress. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.

Weather permitting, the northbound lane on Lincoln Avenue between Iowa Street and Ohio Street will be shifted to the turn lane starting at 8:00 a.m. Thursday, March 23, 2017 through 3:00 p.m. Thursday, March 23, 2017 for tree trimming being done by the City of Urbana Arbor Division Lincoln Avenue will remain open to traffic at all times during the lane shift. Traffic control will be in place to guide motorists through the areas where travel lanes are shifted.
