Our mission:  The Urbana Public Works Department promotes growth in the City of Urbana by maintaining, constructing and improving the City's infrastructure.  We preserve the quality of life for the citizens, visitors, businesses and government agencies (both within the City and in the surrounding areas).  Our department strives to provide prompt and courteous service in a professional, efficient and cost-effective manner to safeguard the safety, health and welfare of those we serve.

The City of Urbana has contracted with Illiana Construction from Urbana, Illinois to perform street maintenance on streets throughout the City of Urbana. The locations of streets to be worked on are shown on the map below:

Since 1987, LRC has been keepin’ it green by recycling local yard waste into useful compost and mulches--all without tax dollars. Weather permitting; the Urbana Champaign Sanitary District will be cleaning and televising sewers from 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 P.M. on Saturday, September 23, 2017 that will impact the streets listed below:

Weather permitting; Cottage Grove Avenue between Main Street and Green Street will be closed to thru traffic from 7:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. on the following days for pruning being done by the City of Urbana Arbor Division: Monday September 25, 2017 Tuesday September 26, 2017 Wednesday September 27, 2017 Thursday September 28, 2017 Friday September 29, 2017 Thank you in advance for your patience and cooperation during this project.

Between the period of Monday, September 18 and Friday September 22, 2017, an all-way stop will be installed to control traffic at the intersection of Main Street and Smith Road. In addition to the stop sign for southbound traffic on Smith Road, eastbound and westbound traffic on Main Street will be regulated by stop signs. Notification signs will be placed on Main Street in advance of the installation of the stop signs to advise motorists who frequently use that route.
