Our mission:  The Urbana Public Works Department promotes growth in the City of Urbana by maintaining, constructing and improving the City's infrastructure.  We preserve the quality of life for the citizens, visitors, businesses and government agencies (both within the City and in the surrounding areas).  Our department strives to provide prompt and courteous service in a professional, efficient and cost-effective manner to safeguard the safety, health and welfare of those we serve.

Weather permitting, the outside lane for eastbound traffic on University Avenue will be closed starting from 7:00 a.m. on Monday, November 28, 2016 to 3:00 p.m. on Friday, December 2, 2016 at 803 East University between Sycamore Street and Ash Street for curb and driveway approach replacement. University Avenue will remain open to traffic at all times during the closure. Motorists are encouraged to drive carefully through this and all construction areas. Thank you for your cooperation while this construction is in progress

Weather permitting, Harding Drive will be closed to thru traffic between Philo Road and Vawter Street starting at 7:00 a.m. on Monday, November 28, 2016 through 8:00 a.m. on Monday, December 5, 2016 for a manhole repair being completed by the Urbana-Champaign Sanitary District. Access will be maintained to properties on Harding Drive but no thru traffic will be permitted. Motorists are encouraged to drive carefully through this and all construction areas. Thank you for your cooperation while this repair is in progress.

Weather permitting, Windsor Road from Lincoln Avenue to Boulder Drive will experience intermittent short-term road closures from 3:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday, November 9, 2016 for pavement marking installation. Through traffic will be permitted during this time but can possibly be delayed for up to 1 hour while paint markings are being applied. We thank you in advance for your patience and cooperation while this work is underway.

On September 19, 2016 the Urbana City Council approved changing the street name of O’Brien Drive to Napleton Way. Weather permitting, the existing O’Brien Drive street name signs will be removed and replaced with new Napleton Way signs on Wednesday November 2, 2016.
