Sidewalk Snow Requirement in Effect

CITY OF URBANA SIDEWALK SNOW REMOVAL REQUIREMENT IN EFFECT

At 8 a.m. Saturday, February 5, 2022, the Urbana Public Works Director will declare the sidewalk snow and ice removal requirement in effect for the Downtown, University, and South Philo Road snow removal districts.

Due to the winter storm, ice and/or two inches or more of snow has accumulated on sidewalks. In order to make sidewalks safe for pedestrians, City ordinance requires that public sidewalks, within the defined districts, be cleared by adjacent property owners within 24 hours after the Public Works Director’s declaration. Sidewalks need to be cleared by 8 a.m., Sunday, February 6, 2022. Public sidewalks within these districts, which are not in compliance, could be cleared by the City at the expense of the adjacent property owner, with additional fines and administrative fees applied.

Thursday & Friday U-Cycle Collections Delayed

Due to inclement weather, the Thursday U-Cycle route will be collected on Friday, and the Friday U-Cycle route will be collected on Saturday.  Please set recycling curbside by 7:00 a.m. to ensure collection.  Please check to ensure visibility of the U-Cart from the street due to the snow.  We appreciate your cooperation.

The City of Urbana, Illinois is seeking bids for the planting/purchase of trees that are between 1.5"-2" caliper for its Spring 2022 planting program. Unit costs shall not be the sole determination of contract award. Preference may be given to vendors who can provide 2" caliper trees. The City shall have final determination on whichever serves its best interest.

Sealed bids will be received at Urbana Public Works Department, 706 South Glover Avenue, Urbana, IL 61802 through 1:30 P.M., Tuesday, February 15, 2022 and at said time, the bids shall be opened and read publicly.

The City reserves the right to reject any and all bids and to waive irregularities.

The City of Urbana is soliciting proposals from qualified, professional executive recruitment firms
to provide executive recruitment services for the search for Chief of Police, Community
Development Services Director, or both. The intent of this RFP is to partner with one or more
executive recruitment/search firm or firms experienced in executive recruitments to provide high
quality service, delivering highly qualified, diverse, and well-vetted candidates.
Proposers may submit proposals to conduct either the search for Community Development
Services Director, or the search for Chief of Police, or both. Proposals must clearly specify which
search or searches they are proposing for and provide pricing accordingly.
In addition, the selected Proposer(s) may be requested to assist the City in conducting future
searches and sourcing of Executive Management Team and/or Leadership Team level
candidates as needed through Dec. 31, 2025. This will vary upon project, need, and
situation. Scope and cost will be negotiated between the City and the consultant as the need

East Elm Street Closure Between South Broadway Avenue and South Vine Street

Weather permitting; East Elm Street will be closed to through traffic between South Broadway Avenue and South Vine Street, starting on Monday, January 17, 2022, at 7 a.m. until 5 p.m. on Monday, January 24, 2022, to install a new water main by Cross Construction for Illinois American Water Company. Access will be maintained to all properties along East Elm Street between South Broadway Avenue and South Vine Street during the project.

East Water Street will be closed to through traffic between North Broadway Avenue and North Vine Street starting on Thursday January 13, 2022, at 7:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. on Friday, January 14, 2022, to repair the pavement from the water main leak. Access will be maintained to all properties along East Water Street between North Broadway Avenue and North Vine Street during the project. Motorists and pedestrians are encouraged to drive and walk carefully through this and all construction areas. The City of Urbana as lead agency for the Urbana HOME Consortium is seeking proposals from qualified persons for Urbana HOME Consortium – American Rescue Plan (HOME-ARP) Allocation Plan Consulting Services. The Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) awarded the consortium $2.9 million dollars in HOME ARP funding.  This grant is intended to provide funding to reduce homelessness and increase housing stability across Champaign County. The funding requires the consortium to engage in consultation and public participation processes and develop a HOME-ARP Allocation Plan. The plan must describe how the consortium intends to distribute HOME-ARP funds, including how it will use these funds to address the needs of HOME-ARP qualifying populations.
