Updated Springfield Avenue and Main Street Closures
The Urbana Champaign Sanitary District’s contractor Insituform will doing sewer lining as part of the District’s annual sanitary interceptor maintenance program. In order to line the sanitary sewer interceptor pipe portions of Springfield Ave and Main Street will have to be shut down to through traffic. This work is scheduled to start on July 24, 2012 at 8:00 am and end August 7th at 5:00 P.M. weather permitting.
Traffic will be affected on the following streets during the cleaning and lining work:
- Springfield Ave will be closed to through traffic from Birch St. to Race St.
- Main St. will be closed to through traffic from McCullough St to Race St.
Eastbound traffic on Springfield Ave and Main Street will be detoured to Elm Street and Race Street. Westbound traffic on Main Street will be detoured to Green Street and Coler Ave.
Local businesses along Springfield Ave and Main Street will still be open but there will be no through traffic on Springfield Ave and Main Street between Tuesday July 24th through Tuesday August 7th. On-street parking will still be available to local traffic during the closure. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.
