Registration is now open for the 11th annual Boneyard Creek Community Day. The event, to be held Saturday, April 23, encourages the public to help protect local waterways though cleanup and educational activities.

Individuals of all ages can participate. Work sites vary from projects in the creek to those more suitable for children. Cleanup begins at 9 a.m. and ends at noon. After the clean-up activities, lunch will be served at Scott Park, where there will also be music and interactive learning displays.

Last year a record 500 volunteers participated in picking up 165 cubic yards of litter from an approximately 1,800-acre area.

Additionally, half-a-mile of invasive species were removed from the Saline Branch area. Boneyard Creek Community Day is a collaborative partnership among the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, Facilities & Services, City of Champaign, Keep Champaign Beautiful, Champaign Park District, City of Urbana, Urbana Park District, Prairie Rivers Network, Champaign County Soil & Water Conservation District, Champaign County Design & Conservation Foundation, Debby Auble, Ward & Associates Realtors Inc., Don Moyer Boys & Girls Club, Della Perrone Photography, Farnsworth Group, and Adams Outdoor Advertising.
