Urbana Celebrates the Boneyard 2016

Date: April 9, 2016 - 1:00pm to 4:00pm

The City of Urbana Public Arts Program is presenting a free community arts event to celebrate local artists and commemorate the Boneyard. Titled Urbana Celebrates the Boneyard, this event will take place on Saturday, April 9, 2016 from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., at the Boneyard Creek Improvements Project in Downtown Urbana (corner of Race Street and Griggs Streets).

The celebration will start with live music by local favorite Desafinado, which plays a combination of samba, bossa nova, and Musica Popular Brasileira, from 1:00 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. This is followed by a performance of capoeira – an Afro-Brazilian art form that combines dance, martial art, music and acrobatic moves – by Capoeira Angola Illinois from 2:30 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. Throughout the afternoon, visitors can also complete a scavenger hunt for a small prize hand-made by Urbana artist Judiee, view an art exhibit by Urbana School District #116 students on banners surrounding the parks, and enjoy delicious treats from the food trucks that will park nearby. Joyful Bubbles will present a bubble demo from 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.

“The Urbana Public Arts Program is proud to bring quality performances and fun activities for all ages to the Boneyard Creek Improvements Project once again,” says Pauline Tannos, Public Arts Coordinator at the City of Urbana, “This new urban park has the perfect location and layout for the outdoor festivities that we have planned.”
