CITY OF URBANA SIDEWALK SNOW REMOVAL REQUIREMENT IN EFFECT
At 11:00 a.m., Friday, February 18, 2022, the Urbana Public Works Director will declare the sidewalk snow and ice removal requirement in effect for the Downtown, University, and South Philo Road snow removal districts.
Due to the winter storm, ice and/or two inches or more of snow has accumulated on sidewalks. In order to make sidewalks safe for pedestrians, City ordinance requires that public sidewalks, within the defined districts, be cleared by adjacent property owners within 24 hours after the Public Works Director’s declaration. Sidewalks need to be cleared by 11:00 a.m., Saturday, February 19, 2022. Public sidewalks within these districts, which are not in compliance, could be cleared by the City at the expense of the adjacent property owner, with additional fines and administrative fees applied.

Sealed bids will be received at the Urbana Public Works Department for Solicitation #2122-40, Philo Rd. and Boneyard Crossing Maintenance
The City of Urbana, Illinois seeks bids from qualified contractors toprovide all supervision, labor, tools and equipment, which will include watering, weeding, fertilizing, mulching, graffiti removal and maintaining landscape areas within the public right-of-ways along Philo Road from Colorado Avenue to Florida Avenue and Boneyard Crossing from Griggs Street to Broadway Avenue. The successful respondent shall provide the necessary equipment and personnel to perform the services in a professional manner consistent with customs and practices in the industry.

Bids will be received through 2:00 PM, Friday March 4, 2022, and at said time, the bids shall be opened and read publicly at the Urbana Public Works, 706 South Glover Avenue, Urbana, IL 61802.

At 1:30 p.m., Friday, March 4, 2022, the City of Urbana will open bids for turf care of specified City of Urbana rights of way and facility lawn areas. The turf care contract will be from April 2022 through December 2023.
It is expected that this work will consist of caring for an estimated 10+ acres of lawn area. Illustrations of these areas and their location are included with the bid document.
The Contractor will not be required to pay prevailing wages, but will need to certify that they comply with the City of Urbana’s requirements for non-discrimination and maintenance of a drug-free workplace plus will be required to provide a certificate of insurance as described in the Specifications. In addition, the City may require any bidder to provide a list of references and clients served over the past five years and reserves the right reject bids based on the information received from references.

There has been a collection delay on the Tuesday curbside U-Cycle routes, particularly in the Stone Creek subdivision and Prairie Winds subdivision, on Tuesday, February 8, 2022. Due to inclement weather, the Thursday U-Cycle route will be collected on Friday, and the Friday U-Cycle route will be collected on Saturday. Please set recycling curbside by 7:00 a.m. to ensure collection. Please check to ensure visibility of the U-Cart from the street due to the snow. We appreciate your cooperation.
