Champaign County First Creates Coalition to Preserve Rail Funding

JOIN THE COALITION! Support passenger rail service on I-57 Amtrak's Knowledge Corridor.

Amid a budget stalemate in the State of Illinois, the Champaign County First group, a partnership of the Champaign County Chamber of Commerce and the Champaign County Economic Development Corporation are forming a coalition to preserve Amtrak rail funding and service level along the I-57 corridor. The Illini and Saluki trains connect three major economic engines for Illinois, the University of Illinois and Eastern and Southern Illinois Universities, creating what is known as the I-57 Amtrak Knowledge Corridor. Communities, universities, businesses and leaders along the line are joining the coalition to protect this vital service for the communities Amtrak serves. The coalition is launching an online petition to send the message to the state elected officials that the current service level on the I-57 corridor needs to be maintained.
