Interstate 74

Interstate 74 and Interstate 57 Patching

The Illinois Department of Transportation announced today that patching will occur in Champaign and Vermilion Counties on Interstates 74 and 57 beginning April 21, 2014, continuing through May 31, 2014.

    The project includes patching of Interstate 57 from the Douglas County line to north of Interstate 74 and patching of Interstate 74 from University Avenue in Urbana to Martin Luther King Drive near Danville.   Traffic will be reduced to one lane in each direction at locations where work is ongoing. 

The anticipated completion date is May 2014, weather permitting.  The contractor for the $400,000 project is Kinney Contractors.

Motorists are advised to slow down, obey posted limits and drive carefully through this and all work zones.

I-74 Cable Guardrail Installation

The Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT), Region 3/District 5, announced that cable guardrail will be installed on Interstate 74 (I-74) from US Route 45 to High Cross Road in Champaign County beginning on Tuesday, September 3, 2013.  Weather permitting, the work will be completed by November 2013. 

This project includes earthwork, adjustments to the existing drainage system and the installation of a high tension cable guardrail system in the median of the interstate.  Traffic on I-74 will be reduced to one lane in each direction at locations where work is ongoing with the left lane being closed during daytime hours. 

While work is ongoing, please observe all traffic control signs.  Cell phone use is prohibited in construction zones.

Motorists are advised to slow down and drive carefully through this and all work zones.

Cross Construction is the contractor for the $2.1 million project.

IDOT to Perform Bridge Work on Interstate 74

Paris, Illinois--The Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) announces that, weather permitting, night work is scheduled to begin on Monday, August 29, 2011 for sealing of bridge decks on Interstate 74 from University Avenue (Exit 185) in Urbana, Illinois to Interstate 57 (Exits 179 A-B) in Champaign County, Illinois. 


This project will include the application of a protective sealer on the concrete bridge decks.  One lane will be closed to traffic in each direction.  Work will be done between the hours of 9:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m. Monday through Thursday for approximately two weeks. 


Please observe all traffic control signs during this project.  Motorists are advised to slow down and drive carefully through this and all work zones. 


The contractor for this $543,000 project is Stark Excavating.

Interstate 74 Night Repair

Paris--The Illinois Department of Transportation announced that weather permitting, there will be night construction on Interstate 74 through Champaign.


Beginning Monday night, October 11, 2010, IDOT's contractor, Complete Asphalt Company, will be sealing cracks on I-74 between University Avenue and Interstate 57.  The work will begin at 10 p.m. and will end by 6 a.m.  IDOT estimates that it will take 4 nights to complete the work.  There will be lane closures during the night, but all lanes will be open through the day.  While work is on-going, please observe all traffic signs.


Motorists are advised to slow down and drive carefully through this and all work zones.
