Updated Design Announced for Townhome Project at 200 South Vine Street

Green Street RealtyGreen Street Realty and the City of Urbana are pleased to announce an updated proposal and Development Agreement for a new townhome development at the 200 block of S Vine St in Downtown Urbana.

The City and Green Street Realty announced in October 2018 that they had entered into a Letter Of Intent to redevelop the 200 block of South Vine Street into a 42-unit townhome development. After listening to community feedback on the initial design, Green Street Realty has updated the project design.

“We appreciate the thoughtful feedback and comments from the community related to the project. Green Street Realty made significant changes in design and exterior building materials in response to these comments and we’re pleased with the final proposal,” Urbana Mayor Diane Wolfe Marlin said.

The updated project would feature a brick façade on the first two floors with an Exterior Insulation Finishing System (EIFS) trim on the third story. The taller, three-story, townhomes would be placed on the western portion of the site to reflect the Downtown Urbana character. The height of the buildings would decrease towards the eastern residential neighborhood, with two story units lining Urbana Avenue. The project would also maintain the two- and three-story units, which would include a mixture of two and three-bedroom floor plans.

"We are excited to present this final updated plan for the 200 S Vine Street project in Downtown Urbana,” Green Street Realty President, Chris Saunders said.

Saunders and the Green Street Realty team solicited feedback earlier in the design-phase of the development’s plan.

"We were able to get some valuable feedback during our public meetings, individual meetings with City Council members and email feedback from local residents. We did our best to take this feedback and make several design modifications to our original concept. It has been a pleasure working with City staff on this development, and we look forward to getting this project underway,” Saunders said.

A Redevelopment Agreement between the City of Urbana and Green Street Realty authorizing the project to move forward will go before the Urbana City Council on January 14, 2019 at 7 p.m. at the Urbana City Building – Council Chambers, 400 South Vine St.
