-------About the Exhibition---------

LINOLEUM & INK is an exhibition of prints created by Urbana High School art students in collaboration with Artist-in-Residence, Lisa Kesler. Forty student artists participated in a 3-week intensive in linoleum block printmaking and reduction printing with the artist, creating their own work in the process. Created works will be on display as part of Artist of the Corridor, a dual-site exhibition series jointly sponsored by The City of Urbana’s Arts and Culture Program and The Urbana Free Library.

-----About UHS Artist-in-Residence, Lisa Kesler---------

Lisa Kesler is a professional studio artist residing in Champaign. Her career has spanned thirty years during which she has worked in a variety of media, primarily painting and printmaking, sold her work to the public and to businesses for public environments, and taught many classes and workshops. Her paintings vary in size from six inch paintings to large five foot canvases. The larger paintings have frequently been selected for health care environments and other public spaces. The smaller paintings are collected by the public at art shows and art fairs throughout the region. Her prints are linoleum block and letterpress pieces created by traditional printmaking methods. She hand-carves linoleum blocks or hand-set wood type on a vintage letterpress to create the designs. She frequently experiments to find new ways to use traditional methods and materials. Lisa first developed an interest in printmaking when she was a senior at the U of I and continued experimenting with the art form after graduation. She has taken workshops from other artists and printers to continue developing her skills and attended conferences to network with other printmakers and learn more about the business of printmaking.
