Our mission:  The Urbana Public Works Department promotes growth in the City of Urbana by maintaining, constructing and improving the City's infrastructure.  We preserve the quality of life for the citizens, visitors, businesses and government agencies (both within the City and in the surrounding areas).  Our department strives to provide prompt and courteous service in a professional, efficient and cost-effective manner to safeguard the safety, health and welfare of those we serve.

Due to public safety concerns, on Thursday, January 25, 2018 Delaware Avenue between Busey Avenue and Orchard Street will be closed from 9:00 a.m. through 12:00 p.m. for an emergency tree removal. Thank you for your cooperation while this removal is in progress.

Weather permitting; the northbound lanes on Lincoln Avenue near Nevada Street will be reduced to one lane from 8:00 a.m. Wednesday, January 24, 2018 through 5:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 31, 2018 for a storm sewer connection being done by Mayfield Construction. Lincoln Avenue will remain open to traffic at all times during the project. Access will be maintained to all properties on Lincoln Avenue during the project. Traffic control will be in place to guide motorists through the areas where travel is reduced to one lane.

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has selected the City of Urbana as a 2017 WasteWise national award recipient.  The U.S. EPA recognized the prevention and diversion accomplishments of 16 WasteWise national award winners, who collectively prevented and recycled 355,801 tons of waste, saving $17.7 million in avoided landfill fees.
