Our mission:  The Urbana Public Works Department promotes growth in the City of Urbana by maintaining, constructing and improving the City's infrastructure.  We preserve the quality of life for the citizens, visitors, businesses and government agencies (both within the City and in the surrounding areas).  Our department strives to provide prompt and courteous service in a professional, efficient and cost-effective manner to safeguard the safety, health and welfare of those we serve.

On Saturday, September 15, 2018, Griggs Street between Race Street and Wood Street will be closed from 3:00 p.m. through 8:00 p.m. for the Urbana Third Saturdays Event. Parking on this section of Griggs Street will not be available during the event. We appreciate your patience while this event is underway.

Weather permitting; Traffic on North Lincoln Avenue will be reduced to one lane in each direction between West Park Street and West Hill Street from 7:00 a.m. Wednesday, September 12, 2018 through 5:00 p.m. Friday September 21, 2018 for water main and storm sewer connections done by Stark Excavating and Illinois American Water Company. Access will be maintained to all properties along North Lincoln Avenue during the project. Traffic control will be in place to guide motorists through the areas where travel is reduced to one lane.

On Friday, September 7, 2018, Goodwin Avenue from Illinois Street to Oregon Street will be closed from 7:00 a.m. through 11:00 p.m. for the Krannert Center for the Performing Arts 50th Anniversary Opening Night. We appreciate your patience while this event is underway.

Lincoln Avenue will be closed between St. Mary’s Road and University of Illinois Parking Lot F-23 on Sunday, September 9, 2018, from approximately 1 p.m. to 10 p.m. for the Japan House Matsuri 2018 celebration. During this time, traffic will be diverted to Goodwin Avenue around the Veterinary Medicine facility to bypass the street closure. This event is a University of Illinois end-of-summer celebration at the Japan House, 2000 South Lincoln Avenue, Urbana, IL.
