Our mission:  The Urbana Public Works Department promotes growth in the City of Urbana by maintaining, constructing and improving the City's infrastructure.  We preserve the quality of life for the citizens, visitors, businesses and government agencies (both within the City and in the surrounding areas).  Our department strives to provide prompt and courteous service in a professional, efficient and cost-effective manner to safeguard the safety, health and welfare of those we serve.

Department Posts

The City of Urbana is upgrading 8,000 feet of sewer pipe to maintain the integrity of the sanitary sewer system in the area. Beginning Monday, September 17, 2012 through Friday, October 12, 2012 weather permitting Walden Associated Technologies from Glen Carbon, Illinois will be performing sewer lining at various locations around Urbana. You will be notified via a door hanger brochure if the sanitary sewer that serves your house is being lined.

The City of Urbana will provide leaf collection to all city residents for 4 weeks this Fall.  Collection will be made on your regular U-Cycle collection day.

The City of Urbana Public Works Department is accepting bids for one (1) Service Crane Body. Bids will be received up to and no later than 1:00 P.M. on Tuesday, September 18, 2012 at the Office of the Director of Public Works, 706 S. Glover Ave., Urbana, IL 61802.

On Sunday September 9, 2012 from 1:00 pm – 6:00 pm The Community Center for the Arts will close Race Street from Main Street north to Goose Alley for a Street Festival and Open House.

The University of Illinois’s contractor Stark Excavating will be installing a new chilled water distribution pipe and crosswalk improvements on Springfield Avenue between Wright Street and Matthews Avenue.  In order to complete this work Springfield Avenue will have to be closed to traffic. Springfield Avenue from Wright Street to Matthews Avenue will be closed to traffic starting on Tuesday September 4, 2012 at 7:00 am to Friday October 12, 2012 at 5:00 P.M. Traffic will be affected on the following streets from September 4, 2012 to October 12, 2012:
