Flashing Enhanced Pedestrian Warning Signs – Lincoln Avenue
Submitted by BridgetB on January 18, 2019 - 2:23pmEffective Monday, January 14, 2019, the City of Urbana has activated flashing enhanced pedestrian warning signs on Lincoln Avenue between Nevada Street and Pennsylvania Avenue. The enhanced pedestrian signage will operate from 9 a.m. to 5:45 p.m., Monday through Friday, during the fall and spring sessions for classes at the University of Illinois. The timing of the sign operation is based upon high pedestrian volumes, which were measured during a traffic study along the corridor. These signs were installed at the north and south ends of the corridor to draw attention to the increase in pedestrian traffic.
The installation of the flashing enhanced pedestrian warning signs was approved by the Urbana City Council after City staff conducted the traffic study and recommended enhanced signage to improve safety in that area.
