Hotel Royer Groundbreaking a Huge Success

Hotel Royer is on its way to being a destination. 

A well-attended groundbreaking took place Thursday, October 28 at the Baldarotta Food Court in Lincoln Square Mall. The City of Urbana is eagerly awaiting the renovation and opening of the historic hotel, which will be one of the world-renowned hotels of the Tapestry Collection by Hilton.  

A portion of Mayor Diane Wolfe Marlin's speech at the groundbreaking ceremony expresses the sentiment of the ceremony: 

"Thank you, and welcome to the Hotel Royer. This day is a long time coming. I'd like to welcome our partners from Marquis Ventures: Joseph Prior (seen above and to the left) and Pervais Usman. 

Over the past 100 years, people ate, slept, and worked here at the intersection of Broadway and Green. Lasting memories were made at this intersection of history and hospitality. We are so looking forward to honoring that history while moving into the future to create another 100 years of memories in the Hotel Royer." --October 28, 2021
