USD Hosts First Parent Academy Night & Community Resource Fair

Date: March 13, 2018 - 6:00pm to 7:30pm

Urbana School District #116 will host its first district wide Parent Academy on Tuesday, March 13, 2018 at Urbana Middle School, 1201 S. Vine St, Urbana, from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Parents, guardians, and family members of Urbana School District students are encouraged to attend. Childcare will be provided by Urbana School District #116 employees for children ages 5 to 11.

The purpose of the Parent Academy is to promote family engagement by providing families with information about curriculum, emotional development, and other resources that support student growth and achievement; and, to strengthen home-school partnerships by inviting parents to share their thoughts and ideas with schools. Families will have the opportunity to select workshops related to their personal interests; the topics were selected using data from a survey families across the district completed in the fall. The overall goal of the academy is to not only support students’ academic growth and achievement; but also, empower families to advocate for themselves and their children.

A community resource fair will be held during the Parent Academy to provide families with information about resources that are available in our community. Several community businesses have generously donated gift cards and products to be used as prizes for families; anyone who attends the academy will be eligible to enter his/her name in the raffle. Urbana School District #116 plans to make the Parent Academy an annual event.
