Young Artist's Studio

The Young Artist's Studio is a series of art workshops sponsored by The Urbana Free Library and The Urbana Arts & Culture Program designed to offer youth an opportunity to explore the arts. All events in the series are free and open to the public. The series is designed for children ages 5 to 11 (7 and under with a caregiver).

All Young Artist's Studio events have transitioned to a virtual experience! Visit the Event Page for each upcoming Young Artist's Studio below to register for the event.

Come learn techniques of African dance! Join us for the next installment of our Young Artist’s Studio with local artist Tatianna Ammons of Ngoma Expressions, who will introduce our young participants to dance movement inspired by the rhythms of Senegal, Mali, and Guinea in West Africa! The class is appropriate for all ages, fitness, and experience levels. Youth participants will explore movement, rhythm, and culture!

Come explore accidental art-making with local artist, EKAH! Join us for the next installment of our Young Artist’s Studio where young participants will learn how to "see" art in the clouds--or in this case, it random blobs of paint! Each young participant will use their imagination to find and trace images they see! By the end, participants will have a new masterpiece to take home.

Come learn what makes a great story! Join us for the next installment of our Young Artist’s Studio featuring master storyteller, Dawn Blackman, who will introduce our young participants to the art of storytelling! We'll explore the elements of good storytelling and what makes a compelling story. Each young participant will have a chance to create their own stories and practice in telling them to a live audience!
