FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: MCORE PROJECT 5 ROAD CLOSURE - GREEN STREET FROM COLER AVENUE TO BIRCH STREET

Date: September 11, 2020 - 7:00am

Weather permitting: the construction area on Green Street will shift to between Coler Avenue and Birch Street and will be closed to thru traffic starting 7:00 a.m., Friday, September 11, 2020 until further notice for the reconstruction of Green Street as part of MCORE Project 5.  Local access and parking for properties on Green Street will be arranged via side streets and coordinated with individual property owners.  Duce Construction Company of Champaign, Illinois is the primary contractor.

The Multimodal Corridor Enhancement Project (MCORE) Project will improve access for all modes of transportation on the Green Street corridor and provide direct connections from downtown Urbana through the University of Illinois campus to Champaign.  The project is funded by a combination of local funds and state Motor Fuel Tax funds.

MCORE Project 5 includes the complete reconstruction of Green Street from Busey Avenue to Race Street in Urbana, the replacement of all sidewalks and sidewalk ramps to improve accessibility for pedestrians, and enhanced transit features.  This project also includes improvements to the City storm and sanitary sewer infrastructure and water main replacement within the project limits.

All roadway users are encouraged to travel carefully through this and all construction areas.  Thank you in advance for your patience and cooperation during this project.
