2013 Sewer Lining Project

Date: January 22, 2014 - 8:00am to February 11, 2014 - 5:00pm

The City of Urbana is upgrading 13,000 feet of sewer pipe to maintain the integrity of the sanitary and storm sewer systems in the area.

Beginning Wednesday, January 22, 2014 through Tuesday, February 11, 2014 weather permitting Hoerr Construction, Inc. from Peoria, Illinois will be performing sewer lining at various locations around Urbana. You will be notified via a door hanger brochure if the sanitary sewer that serves your house is being lined.

This sewer lining process relies on trenchless sewer reconstruction technology that does not involve time consuming, expensive and disruptive open excavations. Instead of digging up and replacing the old pipe, the cured-in-place process provides for the insertion of a special lining inside the old pipe. The new liner creates a watertight, smooth-surfaced and long-lasting pipe within the old sewer.

Locations affected by the Sewer Lining Project include:

• Back yards from 609 to 615 Colorado Avenue / 608 to 614 E. Harding Drive

• Goose Alley and Parking Lot 2 adjacent to Water Street

• Coler Avenue between California Avenue and Oregon Street

• California Avenue between Broadway Avenue and Walnut Street

• Side yards between 1501 & 1503 S. Anderson Street, 1502 & 1504 Grove Street

• Hartle Avenue from Main Street south to 108 Hartle Avenue

• High Street from Maple Street to Webber Street

• Main Street from Maple Street east to railroad tracks

• Lynn Street between Water Street and Main Street

• Cottage Grove Avenue from Main Street south to 109 S. Cottage Grove Avenue

• Side yards between 1409 & 1503 Grove Street, 1502 & 1504 Maple Street

• Side yard between 18 & 20 Montclair Road

• Oakland Avenue between Cunningham Avenue and Boyden Street

• Alley bounded by Cottage Grove Avenue, Hickory Street, Park Street, & University Avenue

• Race Street between Washington Street and Iowa Street

• Vine Street between Windsor Road and Scovill Street

• Washington Street between Race Street and Vine Street

• Walnut Street between Nevada Street and Oregon Street

• Back yards from 1002 Austin Drive to 1104 Austin Drive

• Iowa Street between Orchard Street and Busey Avenue

• Meadow Drive west to Race Street

One or more lanes of a street may be closed at the lining locations to accommodate the Contractor’s equipment and set-up. Generally, lining is completed within one day at the location so any traffic impacts will be temporary.

Your patience is appreciated while this work is underway.
