Florida and Philo Intersection Improvement Project

Date: August 31, 2014 (All day)

Weather permitting, the Florida and Philo Intersection Improvement Project will begin construction on Friday, May 2, 2014.

This project consists of removing the existing traffic signals, sidewalk ramps and curbs and then installing new traffic signals and street lighting, construction of curb bump outs, new sidewalk ramps, and miscellaneous drainage improvements. The Contractor is Champaign Signal and Lighting Company, Inc. from Urbana, Illinois. The project cost of $375,000 is being funded by the State Motor Fuel Tax Fund. The location of the project is the intersection of Florida Avenue and Philo Road and extends approximately 400 feet in all directions from the intersection to remove medians and install new pavement markings. The project will take approximately 4 months to complete. Final restoration will complete the project in late August of 2014.

The intersection will remain open to traffic at all times and the existing traffic signals will remain operational until the new traffic signals are completed and turned on. Pedestrian access will be restricted at times for 6-8 weeks for the removal and replacement of the existing sidewalk ramps and curbs and installation of foundations and conduits. The sidewalk work will be done in stages to accommodate pedestrian users. All residential and commercial driveways in the vicinity of the intersection as described above will remain open at all times but may experience periodic closures as construction equipment and operations may temporarily block access. All dates mentioned are subject to change depending on weather and work progress. Further updates will follow as work progresses.
