UPTV Wins Two Awards in Regional Competition

The City of Urbana is pleased to announce that Urbana Public Television will receive two awards at the 3rd Annual Best of the Midwest Invitational Video Fest and Awards Banquet.  The banquet recognizes the best community access television programs in the Midwest.

UPTV’s coverage of Steven Salaita Speaks About His Termination will receive a Significant Community Program Award.  Their coverage allowed viewers to see Steven Salaita’s press conference about the University of Illinois terminating his employment in its entirety.  The video went viral and received more than 7,000 views overnight.

UPTV staff also won the Merit Award in the professional category for a feature piece on the removal of Urbana’s Hackberry Tree.

“It’s great to be recognized at the regional level,” commented Production Coordinator, Jason Liggett.  “Urbana-Champaign is a media-rich community that UPTV is pleased to be a part of.”

Liggett will attend the Awards Banquet on April 30th in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

UPTV is the City of Urbana’s Public, Education and Government access television station.  It is available locally on Comcast channel 6, AT&T U-Verse Channel 99, and streaming worldwide at their website.
