Learn to Be a DJ!

Come learn to DJ! Join us for the next VIRTUAL installment of our Young Artist’s Studio with local artist Ja'Naea Modest AKA DJ Silkee, who will introduce our young participants to the world of DJing! We'll explore how to create beats, record, and spin! Each young participant will have a chance to test their DJ skills!

U-Cycle Labor Day Holiday Schedule

Due to the Labor Day holiday on Monday, September 7, 2020, U-Cycle route collections will be delayed one day that week.  Monday's route collection will be completed on Tuesday, Tuesday's collection on Wednesday, etc.  Please continue to set recycling at the street curb by 7:00 a.m. to ensure collection.

Young Artist's Studio | Storytelling Workshop for Kids!

Come learn what makes a great story! Join us for the next installment of our Young Artist’s Studio featuring master storyteller, Dawn Blackman, who will introduce our young participants to the art of storytelling! We'll explore the elements of good storytelling and what makes a compelling story. Each young participant will have a chance to create their own stories and practice in telling them to a live audience!

Young Artist's Studio | Accidental Pop Art!

Come explore accidental art-making with local artist, EKAH! Join us for the next installment of our Young Artist’s Studio where young participants will learn how to "see" art in the clouds--or in this case, it random blobs of paint! Each young participant will use their imagination to find and trace images they see! By the end, participants will have a new masterpiece to take home.

Literary giant James Baldwin has long-been acclaimed for the depth of his insight and the beauty of his language. This program features dramatic readings of Baldwin's work by the multi-talented Kevin T. Hobbs. Tune in to the Library's Facebook page to see this program.
Kevin T. Hobbs is a professional actor, filmmaker, writer, musician, and teaching artist hailing from Central Illinois. Kevin has appeared on movie screens and stages across the country. Kevin is also the founder of the D.O.S.E. Foundation (a nonprofit whose mission it is to ensure that the theater community becomes a more accurate mirror of the world in which we live), where he functions as the executive director. Currently, Kevin serves as the artistic director of the upcoming National August Wilson Monologue Competition for Central Illinois (2021), for which the D.O.S.E. Foundation is the regional sponsor.

Virtual Adult Poets Workshop with Poet Laureate, Will Reger

Calling all adult poets! Join Urbana Poet Laureate, Will Reger, for a one of a kind poetry workshop, where you'll build your own poetry skills. Poets and writers of all levels are welcome! Whether you've ever written before or have a long history of creative writing, this workshop will offer a chance to flex your poetic muscle! ​
​About Will Reger:
Will Reger was born and raised in the St. Louis, Missouri area. He obtained his Ph.D. in History from the University of Illinois and lives in Champaign, Illinois, with his wife and two youngest children. A co-leader of CU Poetry Group, Reger has lent his energies towards initiatives such as MTD Poetry, CU Haiku in the News Gazette, and Poets at the Post, a monthly open mic held at the Iron Post in Urbana. Reger teaches within the Department of History at both Illinois State University and has read his poetry work at The Urbana Free Library, Boneyard Arts Festival, Imbibe Urbana’s Love for All Poetry Crawl, SPEAK Café, Respect the Mic, and as part of an annual reading at Danville Correctional Center.​

Young Artist's Studio | Kids Learn African Dance!

Come learn techniques of African dance! Join us for the next installment of our Young Artist’s Studio with local artist Tatianna Ammons of Ngoma Expressions, who will introduce our young participants to dance movement inspired by the rhythms of Senegal, Mali, and Guinea in West Africa! The class is appropriate for all ages, fitness, and experience levels. Youth participants will explore movement, rhythm, and culture!
