Light the Night: Bike Light Distribution Campaign

Do you ride your bike at night? Then you gotta have a light!Light the Night Flyer

Stop by one of the locations below with your bicycle without a light, and teams of volunteers will install a set free of charge. Light sets will only be installed on bicycles without lights; lights will not be given to individuals . A reflector will also be provided if your bicycle does not have one.

Urbana Seeks to Increase Bicycle Safety with Bicycle Enforcement Campaign

The City of Urbana is working hard to make Urbana the most bicycle friendly community in the Midwest.  In 2008, the City adopted a goal to “get Urbana bicycling”. Since then, the City wrote and adopted an award-winning bicycle master plan and began implementing dedicated bicycle infrastructure.  Then, in 2010, Urbana worked with Champaign and the University of Illinois to host a community-wide ‘C-U Bike to Work Day’ to encourage residents to try biking to work or school for one day instead of driving. In 2012, the City supported a staff member in becoming a League of American Bicyclists certified bicycle instructor.


All of these initiatives are working on the “Five E’s” of bicycle friendliness:

Main Street Bike Lanes and Pedestrian Improvements Informational Meeting

On Thursday, July 26, 2012 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., the City of Urbana will hold an informational meeting concerning the proposed Main Street Bike Lanes and Pedestrian Improvements between Vine Street and University Avenue.  The meeting will be held at the Urbana Civic Center, 108 East Water Street, Urbana, Illinois.  All persons interested in this project are invited to attend this meeting.  Any person with a disability planning to attend this meeting should contact the individual listed below by Thursday, July 19, 2012, if special accommodations are required.  The meeting room is accessible to persons with disabilities.

Urbana named a Bicycle Friendly Community

The City of Urbana is proud to announce that we have been named a Bicycle Friendly Community (BFC) by the League of American Bicyclists.  Receiving this recognition demonstrates that the City of Urbana knows the importance of promoting bicycling to improve public health, improve quality of life, protect the environment, and provide better transportation choices.
