 Looking up the fire ladderApplications are now being accepted for Firefighter-EMT at the Urbana Fire Department. The Firefighter-EMT position is consistently one of the most competitive and sought-after positions at the City. This selection process will create an eligibility list to fill vacancies for the next two years.

Urbana Fire Chief Charles Lauss noted that this year’s campaign theme is “Climb the Ladder,” which refers to both the challenging selection process and the demanding career. “This is a field where no two days are ever alike, and you always have to bring your best effort,” he stated. “However, our slogan is that ‘opportunity starts with the first step.’ With these challenges come incredible rewards, both personally and professionally.”

UC2B is the short name for Urbana-Champaign Big Broadband, which is a collaboration between the cities of Urbana and Champaign, the University of Illinois, and several other public and private partners. Together, they received grant funding to build a fiber-optic Internet network that offers fast, high-speed internet access to neighborhoods, businesses, and Community Anchor institutions across Urbana-Champaign.
