Art at the Market!

Date: July 14, 2018 - 8:00am

Join the City of Urbana Public Arts Program for our July Art at the Market! From 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. explore the art of papel picado, a Mexican folk art craft, guided by the staff of La Casa Cultural Latina and the Center for Latin American and Caribbean Studies. From 9:30am-11:30am, enjoy a musical performance from Jean René Balekita and Bomoyi, a ensemble with extensive repertoire of traditional hymns to African rhythms with flavors of gospel, jazz and Congolese rumba. Bomoyi means “life” in the native language of Lingala. All these events are free, open to all ages, and require no registration to participate. The workshop and performance will be held on Walnut Street near the City of Urbana tent at the northwest entrance to the Market at the Square, located in historic downtown Urbana on Illinois and Vine. The City offers art programming during Urbana’s Market at the Square season. Workshops and performances will take place every second Saturday of the month at Urbana's Market at the Square!
