Our mission:  The Urbana Public Works Department promotes growth in the City of Urbana by maintaining, constructing and improving the City's infrastructure.  We preserve the quality of life for the citizens, visitors, businesses and government agencies (both within the City and in the surrounding areas).  Our department strives to provide prompt and courteous service in a professional, efficient and cost-effective manner to safeguard the safety, health and welfare of those we serve.

Sealed BIDS will be received until 2:00 P.M. prevailing time on May 15, 2019 and opened and read aloud publicly at 2:02 P.M. prevailing time on May 15, 2019 at the office of the City Engineer, 706 South Glover, Urbana, Illinois, 61802 for the 2019 CONCRETE SIDEWALK REPAIR PROJECT (City Section 18-00617-00-SW) furnishing of all materials, equipment and labor necessary complete the removal and replacement of existing concrete sidewalks with new portland cement concrete (P.C.C.) sidewalks.

The City of Urbana will restrict parking and close several streets to thru traffic for the Illinois Marathon, which will take place on Saturday, April 27, 2019. Urbana Street Closing Information: All street closings will begin at 6:00 AM. The entire route will be closed by 6:30 AM. (Traffic will be pulsed across the route when possible). The following streets will re-open at these approximate times:

Spring 2019 leaf collection will occur one week in April 2019: April 22 - 26 Leaf collection will occur on your U-Cycle collection day. Please place all bagged leaves at the street curb before 6:00 a.m. Place leaves into 30-gallon paper lawn & garden bags Bags must be placed at the street curb or roadway edge Only leaves and non-woody plant material will be collected *No plastic bags, brush, tree limbs or woody material*

Join U-Cycle and the Urbana Park District for the 2nd annual backyard composting workshop!  The workshop will explore the benefits of food scrap and landscape composting at home!  Representatives from the City of Urbana and the Urbana Park District will discuss ways in which you can create your own backyard and vermi-compost bins, feed your garden's flowers and vegetables using compost, and highlight the types of compost available locally at the Landscape Recycling Center in Urbana.  Snacks and door prizes will be available!
