Our mission:  The Urbana Public Works Department promotes growth in the City of Urbana by maintaining, constructing and improving the City's infrastructure.  We preserve the quality of life for the citizens, visitors, businesses and government agencies (both within the City and in the surrounding areas).  Our department strives to provide prompt and courteous service in a professional, efficient and cost-effective manner to safeguard the safety, health and welfare of those we serve.

The City of Urbana will restrict parking and close several streets to thru traffic for the Illinois Marathon, which will take place on Saturday, April 28, 2018. Urbana Street Closing Information: All street closings will begin at 6:00 AM. The entire route will be closed by 6:30 AM. (Traffic will be pulsed across the route when possible). The following streets will re-open at these approximate times:

On Friday, September 28, 2018, Race Street from Michigan Avenue to Iowa Street will be closed from 2:00 p.m. through 3:00 p.m. for staging in preparation for the Urbana High School Homecoming Parade. The route for the parade will be:

South Goodwin Avenue between West Oregon Street and West Nevada Street will be closed starting Thursday, September 27th at 6:00 p.m. through Sunday, September 30th at 6:00 a.m. for The Pygmalion Festival. Parking on this section of Goodwin Avenue will not be permitted during the event. We appreciate your patience while this event is underway.

Closed The City of Urbana (City) is seeking quotes to provide the City with equipment for solar powered LED enhanced signage. The City intends to install this equipment at two separate locations, with each installation requiring: a solar array, backup batteries, programmable timer, and a LED enhanced warning sign. Two-way traffic will shift to the eastbound lane of East Main Street in Urbana beginning at 7:00 a.m. on Thursday, September 20, 2018. Weather permitting, Cross Construction, Inc. will make a repair to the City sanitary sewer main in the westbound lane of East Main Street between Lynn Street and Cottage Grove Avenue. Main Street will remain open to through traffic for the duration of the project and the lane shift will end at 5:00 p.m. on Friday, September 28, 2018.
