Somer Drive Lane Closures

Weather permitting, periodic lane closures for pavement coring can be expected along Somer Drive from Lincoln Avenue to the bridge over the Saline, starting at 7 am, Monday, January 23, 2017 and ending at 5 pm, Friday January 27, 2017. Two-way traffic will be maintained on Somer Drive at all times.

Motorists are encouraged to drive carefully through this and all construction areas. Thank you for your cooperation while this work is in progress.

Lincoln Avenue Lane Closures

U-Cycle - Regular Schedule

The City of Urbana and the Urbana HOME Consortium (comprised of the City of Urbana, the City of Champaign, and Champaign County) are seeking citizen input regarding community needs for the preparation of the Annual Action Plan (AAP) for Fiscal Year 2017-2018. The AAP establishes budgets for the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) and HOME Investment Partnerships (HOME) Program.

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN THAT the City Council of the City of Urbana, Illinois will hold a public hearing at 7:00pm Monday, December 12, 2016, in the Council Chambers of the Urbana City Building, 400 South Vine Street, Urbana, for the purpose of receiving public comment regarding the 2016 Property Tax Levy.

Persons with disabilities needing special services or accommodations for this hearing should contact the City of Urbana's Americans with Disabilities Coordinator at 384-2466 or TDY at 384-2447.

Holiday Tree Collection Schedule

The City of Urbana will provide holiday tree collection to all residents for two weeks this holiday season on your regular U-Cycle collection day:

  • January 2 - 6, 2017
  • January 9 - 13, 2017

Residents must follow these requirements:

  1. Place tree along curb (on the parkway) by 6:00 a.m. on your regular U-Cycle collection day
  2. Remove all decorations, stands, and all metal from tree before collection. No tinsel or flocked trees
  3. Remove plastic tree bags

In addition, trees may be taken to the Landscape Recycling Center at 1210 E. University Ave., Urbana, for FREE recycling.  The site is open for year-round recycling of yard debris.  The LRC can be reached at (217) 344-5323.

Green Street Lane Reduction at intersection with McCullough Street

Weather permitting, Green Street will be reduced to one lane of traffic just east of its intersection with McCullough Street starting at 7:00 a.m. on Monday, November 28, 2016 until 5:00 p.m. on Monday, December 12, 2016 for replacement of a water main.

Traffic will be reduced to one lane through the construction zone so delays are anticipated and motorists should use an alternative route if possible. Motorists are encouraged to drive carefully through this and all construction areas.

Weather permitting, the outside lane for northbound traffic on Lincoln Avenue between Oregon Street and Nevada Street will be closed starting at 7:00 a.m. Monday, November 21, 2016 to 3:00 p.m. Wednesday, November 23, 2016 for curb and road repair.

Lincoln Avenue will remain open to traffic at all times during the closure. Motorists are encouraged to drive carefully through this and all construction areas.

Vine Street Lane Closure

Weather permitting, the southbound lanes for traffic on Vine Street will be closed starting at 7:00 a.m. on Monday, November 28, 2016 to 3:00 p.m. on Friday, December 2, 2016 between University Avenue and Water Street for a water main repair.

Southbound traffic will be shifted to the inner northbound lane. Vine Street will remain open to traffic at all times during the closure.

Motorists are encouraged to drive carefully through this and all construction areas. Thank you for your cooperation while this construction is in progress.

University Avenue Lane Closure

Weather permitting, the outside lane for eastbound traffic on University Avenue will be closed starting from 7:00 a.m. on Monday, November 28, 2016 to 3:00 p.m. on Friday, December 2, 2016 at 803 East University between Sycamore Street and Ash Street for curb and driveway approach replacement. University Avenue will remain open to traffic at all times during the closure.
