Comments will be accepted until March 21, 2011 @ 5:00pm. A Public Hearing will be held on Tuesday, March 29, 2011 at 7:00pm in the Urbana City Council Chambers.


Staff will be present to accept comments regarding a proposed minor Amendment to a Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) Agreement with Center for Women in Transition-A Woman’s Place (CWT-AWP) for FY 2010-2011.

Consolidated Social Service Fund Applications Available

Nonprofit organizations seeking funds to operate social service programs benefitting Urbana residents may apply to the Consolidated Social Service Funding (CSSF) pool.  Funds may be used for both services to clients and program operating costs.  For Fiscal Year 2010-2011, the City of Urbana and Cunningham Township jointly provided $317,760 in social service funds in support of over 41 local programs.


Applications will be available Monday, March 7, 2011 at the following locations:



  • City of Urbana, Community Development Services, 400 S. Vine St, Urbana

  • Cunningham Township Supervisor's Office, 205 W. Green St, Urbana

All applicants are required to attend one of the Technical Assistance Training sessions in the Urbana City Council Chambers on Thursday, March 10, 2011 at NOON  or  5:30 pm.

Busey Avenue and Park Street Closures

March 7, 2011 (All day) to March 18, 2011 (All day)

On Tuesday, March 1, 2011 Busey Avenue between Church Street and Park Street will close permanently to make way for the new Carle Foundation Hospital Patient Bed Tower and Heart and Vascular Institute.


From March 7 through March 18, 2011, Park Street between Coler Street and Busey Avenue will be closed for underground construction at the hospital. In the weeks to follow, Park Street will re-open intermittently, but will be restricted to one lane and one-way traffic heading westbound.


The hospital’s Emergency Room and emergency parking can be accessed from University Avenue at Coler Street. Coler Street remains permanently closed north of the Emergency Room.


Updates will become available as this project progresses.

Maple Street Lane Closure

The City will be making sanitary sewer repairs on Maple Street between University Avenue and Main Street. One lane of traffic on Maple Street will be closed beginning at 7 A.M. on Monday February 28, 2011 to Thursday March 3, 2011 at 5:00 P.M. weather permitting.

U-Cycle Collection Delayed

Due to inclement weather conditions, Urbana's U-Cycle curbside recycling collection will not take place on Wednesday, February 2, 2011. Wednesday's collection route will be picked up Thursday; hence, collection will be delayed one day for the remainder of the week.

Notice of Public Hearing & Comment Period

A public hearing will be held on February 18, 2011 at 10:30 a.m. in the Urbana City Council Chambers. Staff will be present to accept comments regarding an Amendment to Annual Action Plans for FY 2006-2007, FY 2007-2008, and FY 2008-2009. Funds are to be reallocated to support the Community Elements Tenant Based Rental Assistance Program (FY 2010-2011). See the attached Amendment for more information. Downtown Market Study Presentation

The purpose of the Downtown Market Study is to analyze the retail, residential, office, and hotel markets in downtown Urbana. This analysis will guide the City in targeting certain types of businesses and development. Business Districts Incorporated will present their findings related to this project in the City Council Chambers at 400 S. Vine St., Urbana.

LRC Closing at Noon Today

Due to inclement weather, the Landscape Recycling Center will close at 12:00pm today. It will reopen for regular business at 8:00am tomorrow, January 12, 2011.

Coler Street Closure

On Monday January 10, 2011, Coler Avenue between Park Street and Church Street will close to begin the first phase of the new Carle Foundation Campus Modernization Project. The intersection of Park Street and Coler Avenue will be open to traffic along with access to the current emergency room parking lot located on the northwest corner of Park Street and Coler Avenue during this phase of the project. Updates will become available as this project progresses.
