East Main Street and North Vine Street Lane Closures

Illinois American Water will be repairing a leaking water valve on the northwest corner of intersection of East Main and North Vine Street. There will be lane closures for south bound traffic on Vine Street and west bound traffic on Main Street starting Monday, November 3, 2014 at 7:00 a.m. through Friday, November 7, 2014 at 5:00 p.m., weather permitting. Both North Vine Street and East Main Street will remain open to traffic at all times.

West High Street Closure

Duce Construction will be installing a sanitary manhole in the 600-block of West High Street. West High Street between Orchard Street and Coler Avenue will be closed to thru traffic beginning Monday, November 3, 2014 at 7:00 a.m. to Wednesday, November 13, 2014 at 5:00 p.m., weather permitting. All residents along West High Street will be able to access their properties during the manhole installation.

Urbana Enterprise Zone Informational Open House and Public Hearing

Pursuant to the revised Illinois Enterprise Zone Act (20 ILCS 655/1 et seq.) the current Urbana Enterprise Zone will expire in 2016. The City of Urbana and Champaign County are currently preparing to apply for the creation of a new Enterprise Zone. The application is due at the end of 2014.

A presentation highlighting the purpose of the proposed new Enterprise Zone, the application process to apply for a new Zone, and proposed Zone boundaries will be given at 11:30 am. The Public Hearing and discussion on the Enterprise Zone will follow immediately at Noon (12:00 pm). The open house will continue after the conclusion of the Public Hearing through 2:00 pm. The Enterprise Zone presentation may be repeated upon request at 1:30 pm.

Scovill Street Closure

Scovill Street from Anderson Street to Lynn Street will be intermittently closed to thru traffic from 7:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday, October 29, 2014 for Burnett Tree Service to remove a tree at 710 Scovill Street, weather permitting.


Any street closures will be short in duration and access will be maintained to all properties on Scovill Street.

Church Street Nighttime Closure

The City of Urbana has contracted Illini Concrete Raising, Inc of Champaign, Illinois to perform concrete pavement repairs to Church Street between Orchard Street and the intersection of Park Street and McCullough Street.


This work will be performed during nighttime hours between 7:00 p.m. and 7:00 a.m. each night. Beginning November 4, 2014 at 7:00 p.m. and ending November 7, 2014 at 7:00 a.m., Church Street between Orchard Street and the intersection of Park Street and McCullough Street will be closed to thru traffic, weather permitting. The street will be open during the day when no work is being performed.

Springfield Avenue Lane Closures

October 29, 2014 - 7:00am to October 31, 2014 - 5:00pm

Periodic lane closures for pavement resurfacing can be expected along Springfield Avenue between Coler Avenue and McCullough Street beginning at 7:00 a.m. on Wednesday, October 29, 2014 and ending at 5:00 p.m., on Friday October 31, 2014.


Two-way traffic will be maintained on Springfield Avenue at all times.

Elm Street Closure

Due to a water main break, Elm Street between Vine Street and Broadway Avenue will be closed until further notice.


Motorists can access the Independent Media Center (IMC) and U.S. Post Office (202 South Broadway Avenue, Urbana) from Main Street to Broadway Avenue.  Access to the Federal Court House (201 South Vine Street, Urbana), City of Urbana parking lot #10-A North, and the Champaign County Courthouse parking lot is available from Vine Street to Elm Street.

UI Homecoming Parade Street Closures

On Friday, October 24, 2014 the University of Illinois will be conducting their Annual Homecoming Parade.


The following streets will be closed to traffic from 6:00 P.M. to 7:30 P.M. :



  • Green Street from Wright Street to Mathews Avenue

  • Mathews Avenue from Green Street to Nevada Street

The parade will start on Sixth Street at Pennsylvania Avenue, follow Sixth Street to Armory Street, Armory Street to Wright Street, Wright Street to Green Street, Green Street to Mathews Avenue, and Mathews Avenue to Nevada Street.

Wright Street, Goodwin Avenue, and Maple Street Railroad Crossing Work

October 22, 2014 - 7:00am to 5:00pm

Norfolk-Southern Railroad will be rehabilitating the Wright Street, Goodwin Avenue, and Maple Street Railroad Crossings in Urbana starting on Wednesday October 22, 2014 at 7:00 A.M. to Friday October 24, 2014 at 5:00 P.M., weather permitting. One lane of traffic will be closed at the Wright Street and Goodwin Avenue Railroad Crossings but both streets will remain open to through traffic at all times.


Maple Street between University Avenue and Main Street will be closed to through traffic for the railroad crossing work. A detour route is provided via University Avenue to Vine Street to Main Street. Access will be maintained to all properties on Maple Street during the railroad crossing work, but no through traffic will be permitted on Maple Street between University Avenue and Main Street.

Iowa Street Closure

Iowa Street between Orchard Street and Busey Avenue will be closed to thru traffic on Friday October 17, 2014 from 7:00 AM to 5:00 P.M., weather permitting. Hoerr Construction will be installing cured-in-place liners in two storm sewers in the 700 block of West Iowa Street. All residents along West Iowa Street will be able to access their properties during the storm sewer lining work.
