Mathews Avenue Closure

Weather permitting, Mathews Avenue from Green Street to Springfield Avenue will be closed to thru traffic from 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Monday, June 30, 2014 to set up and operate a crane. There will be no detour route for this closure.

Update Griggs Street Closure

June 4, 2014 - 7:00am to June 13, 2014 - 6:00pm

O’Neil Brothers will be doing channel work as a part of the Boneyard Creek Improvements Project.  In order to perform bypass pumping while the channel work is occurring, Griggs Street between Race Street and Central Avenue will be closed to through traffic.  The closure is scheduled to begin on Wednesday June 4, 2014 at 7 A.M. and extend through Friday June 13, 2014 at 6:00 P.M., weather permitting.

Access will be maintained to properties on Griggs Street during the temporary street closure but no through traffic permitted on Griggs Street between Race Street and Central Avenue.

Annual Budget Public Hearing

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN THAT the City Council of the City of Urbana, Illinois will hold a public hearing at 7:00 p.m., Monday, June 02, 2014, in the Council Chambers of the Urbana City Building, 400 South Vine Street, Urbana, for the purpose of receiving public comment regarding The Annual Budget.

Race Street Closure

June 1, 2014 - 10:00am to 6:00pm

On Sunday, June 1, 2014, Race Street from Main Street to Water Street will be closed from 10:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m. for the Community Center for the Arts Race Street Bash. Please note that the Courier Café and the alley to the south of that building will be accessible during this time.

Willowview Road Closure (300 feet east of Cunningham Avenue (US 45) to Clifford Drive)

Willowview Road between Cunningham Avenue and Clifford Drive will be fully opened to the public at 8:00 a.m. on Thursday, June 19, 2014.

Park Street Closure

Park Street will be fully opened to the public at 8:00 a.m. on Monday, June 9, 2014.


The project consists of the reconstruction of Park Street from Cunningham Avenue (US 45) to Maple Street. The proposed work will entail the removal of the existing pavement to allow for placement of a new hot-mix asphalt pavement.

Notice of Amendment to Annual Action Plan FY 2013-2014 & Notice of Public Hearing Regarding Amendment to Annual Action Plan FY 2013-2014

The City of Urbana, as a member of the Urbana HOME Consortium, proposes to amend the City of Urbana HOME Program budget in the Fiscal Year (FY) 2013-2014 Annual Action Plan (AAP). A reduction to the City of Urbana Housing Rehabilitation program in the amount of $112,000 is proposed to allow for a demolition/new construction project at 301 Thompson Street in Urbana, as well as to commit additional funds to the Community Elements Tenant Based Rental Assistance (TBRA) program. For full details of the proposed Amendment to the Annual Action Plan, please see the attachment below.

A public comment period on the proposed Amendment will begin on May 14, 2014 and run through June 13, 2014 at 5:00 p.m.  A public hearing has been scheduled for May 29, 2014 at 7:00 p.m. before the regular meeting of the Community Development Commission to accept comments on the proposed Amendment.
