Become a Member of Urbana's Bicycle & Pedestrian Advisory Commission

The City of Urbana is seeking applicants with an interest and expertise in bicycling and walking issues to serve a 3 year term on the Bicycle and Pedestrian Advisory Commission (BPAC).


BPAC meets the 3rd Tuesday of each month at 7:00 p.m. in City Council Chambers at 400 S. Vine Street.


Interested citizens should contact the Mayor's office for information at (217) 384-2456, or send in an application by November 30, 2010.


Celebrate America Recycles Day!

Celebrate America Recycles Day at Anita Purves Nature Center!


Ages: All Ages
When: Saturday, November 13 (10 AM - 2 PM) 
Where: Anita Purves Nature Center (1505 N Broadway Ave, Urbana)
Cost: Free


Activities: Learn about the world of recycling, including safe disposal methods and alternatives to trash. Discover ways to reduce waste, save money and create art from trash. Take a recycling pledge, play recycling games, and enter to win prizes from Urbana's U-Cycle Program! 


You may bring the following items to recycle at the event:



  1. Alkaline (single-use batteries) and rechargeable batteries (No batteries over 2 lbs or car/truck batteries) -- Please tape the terminals of all batteries

  2. Ink jet cartridges

  3. Cell phones

  4. Six-pack ring holders

  5. Plastic bags

  6. Juice pouches (i.e. Capri Sun)

Yankee Ridge Enrichment Dancers to Perform at Krannert

The Yankee Ridge Enrichment Dancers will be performing with the University of Illinois Faculty Brass Quintet this weekend.  The performance is Sunday, October 24th at 3:00pm in the Krannert Center for Performing Arts Great Hall.  They will be performing Peter and the Wolf.

Housing Task Force Open House

UI Physics Van to Visit Thomas Paine Elementary

The University of Illinois Physics Van, a traveling science show for students, will be visiting Thomas Paine Elementary Friday, October 22. Students in grades K-5 will view a variety of physics demonstrations performed by students from the University of Illinois Physics department. They will also have a chance to ask questions about the performance.

C-U Sharing the Road Bike Education Video Premiere

The cities of Urbana and Champaign have been working the past several months to produce a video to introduce the public to the bicycle infrastructure that is being installed around both cities and to teach motorists and bicyclists how to interact with each other on the road. 


This video was shot, edited and produced locally by Urbana Public Television, led by Jason Liggett.


The premiere of this video, entitled C-U Sharing the Road, will be held on Tuesday October 5th at the Art Theater in Downtown Champaign.  The doors open at 5:00 p.m. and the video will be shown at 5:30 p.m.  Admission is free.
